EMBEDDED SYSTEM
Untitled Document
1. Brief 2 Embedded System
An embedded system is a special-purpose system in which the computer is completely encapsulated by the device it controls. Unlike a general-purpose computer, such as a personal computer, an embedded system performs pre-defined tasks, usually with very specific requirements.
2. Microprocessor
A microprocessor incorporates most or all of the functions of a central processing unit (CPU) on a single integrated circuit (IC). The first microprocessors emerged in the early 1970s and were used for electronic calculators, using BCD arithmetics on 4-bit words. Other embedded uses of 4 and 8-bit microprocessors, such as terminals, printers, various kinds of automation etc, followed rather quickly.
3. What is Microcontroller
A microcontroller (or MCU) is a computer-on-a-chip used to control electronic devices. It is a type of microprocessor emphasizing self-sufficiency and cost-effectiveness, in contrast to a general-purpose microprocessor (the kind used in a PC).
4. Real-time Operating System
A real-time operating system (RTOS)[Generally pronounced as: Are-toss] is a multitasking operating system intended for real-time applications. Such applications include embedded systems (programmable thermostats, household appliance controllers, mobile telephones), industrial robots, spacecraft, industrial control (see SCADA), and scientific research equipment.
5. System on Chip
System-on-a-chip or system on chip (SoC or SOC) refers to integrating all components of a computer or other electronic system into a single integrated circuit (chip). It may contain digital, analog, mixed-signal, and often radio-frequency functions – all on one chip.
6. In-Circuit Emulator
An in-circuit emulator (ICE) is a hardware device used to debug the software of an embedded system. It is usually in the form of bond-out processor which has many internal signals brought out for the purpose of debugging. These signals tell about the state of a processor. Embedded systems present special problems for a programmer, because they usually lack keyboards, screens, disk-drives and other helpful user interfaces and storage devices that are present on business computers.

If you try you may fail, if you don't try you're guaranteed to fail.
